HOW DO I PRACTICE FORGIVENESS?

HOW DO I PRACTICE FORGIVENESS?

Bible Reading: Matthew 6: 14-15

Memory Verse:  But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sinsMatthew 6:15 (NLT)

Here’s a more detailed explanation of how to approach forgiveness as a Christian:

1. Acknowledge and Process Your Emotions:

a. Don’t suppress your feelings: It’s okay to feel hurt, angry, or sad. Allow yourself to process these emotions, but don’t let them consume you.

b. Seek God’s guidance: Pray about your hurt and ask God to help you understand the situation and your emotions.

c. Recognize the need for forgiveness: Understand that holding onto resentment will only harm you and prevent healing.

2. Focus on God’s Forgiveness:

a. Remember God’s grace: Reflect on how God has forgiven you, even when you have fallen short (Romans 5:8).

b. Emulate God’s love: As God loves you unconditionally, strive to extend the same love and compassion to others, even those who have hurt you.

c. Pray for the person who hurt you: Pray for their well-being and ask God to help them heal, just as you are seeking healing.

3. Choose to Forgive:

a. Forgiveness is a decision, not a feeling: You may not feel like forgiving right away, but choose to forgive anyway, trusting that God will help you to grow in love and compassion.

b. Release the anger and resentment: Let go of the desire for revenge or retribution, and trust that God will bring justice in His own time.

c. Forgive by faith: Forgive the person as you have been forgiven by God, even if they don’t seem deserving of it.

4. Take Practical Steps:

a. Establish healthy boundaries: If the person continues to hurt you, it’s okay to set boundaries to protect yourself.

b. Seek counsel: Talk to a trusted friend, pastor, or counsellor to process your emotions and receive guidance on forgiveness.

c. Focus on healing: Spend time in prayer, scriptural meditation, and fellowship with other believers to strengthen your faith and find healing.

Quote: Forgiveness is a choice.

Prophetic Decree: Receive your healing from deep seated hurt, in Jesus name.

Prayer Focus

1. I receive grace to acknowledge and process my emotions, in Jesus name.

2. I receive grace to focus on forgiveness and not on past pain or hurt, in Jesus name.

3. I choose to forgive; releasing my anger and resentment, in Jesus name.

4. I receive wisdom to establish healthy boundaries, in Jesus name.

5. My Father, release your Oil of forgiveness upon my heart, in Jesus name.
