Bible Reading:            Isaiah 1:19-20; 1 Samuel.

Memory Verse: And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.1Samuel 15:22.

Even though the Bible says, “If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land,” many believers assume on their obedience score. You may think you are obedient when God has another opinion of you. Which of the following levels of obedience describes you?

1.      Partial Obedience: 1 Samuel 15:15 says “…for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.”  Saul’s action was regarded as disobedience—because it was partial obedience. If you will qualify to “eat the good of the land” you must flee every form of partial obedience. God is always faithful to do what He has promised but every believer needs to ensure that they write down the instructions from the Lord.

2.      Selective Obedience: Saul posed as if he had done all that God asked him to do but Samuel confronted him that his obedience was selective. Becoming a friend of God and eating the good of the land requires that you obey all that God instructs and not just selecting the aspects you enjoy. God asked Saul to destroy the enemies of the Lord—the Amalekites—but he reserved the goodies and spoils of war and he killed the soldiers but spared the king. People who obey God in a selective manner don’t earn the trust of God.

Quote:    Obedience is the summary of the Bible.

Prophetic Word:        May the Holy Spirit nudge and compel you to obey God in season and out of season, in Jesus name.

Prayer Focus:

  1. Father Lord, I repent in any way I have been disobedient to you, in Jesus name.
  2. Lord, deliver me from disobedience that I’m calling obedience
  3. Holy Spirit, I permit You to interrupt me whenever I walk in selective obedience in Jesus’ name.
  4. Spirit of the living God, bombard my heart with the Spirit of obedience, in Jesus name.
  5. I will not be replaced after the order of Saul, in Jesus name.
