Bible Reading:  Revelation 20: 12-15

Memory VerseAnyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fireRevelation 20:15 (NIV)

Permit me to paraphrase the hymn of James Milton Black from the USA who lived between 1856-1938.

“When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound and time shall be no more, And the morning breaks, eternal, bright and fair; When the saved of earth shall gather over on the other shore, And the roll is called up yonder, Will you be there?

When the roll is called up yonder, will you be there?

On that bright and cloudless morning when the dead in Christ shall rise, And the glory of his resurrection share; When his chosen ones shall gather to their home beyond the skies, And the roll is called up yonder, will you be there?

When the roll is called up yonder, will you be there?

Let us labour for the Master from the dawn till setting sun; Let us talk of all his wondrous love and care. Then when all of life is over and our work on earth is done, And the roll is called up yonder, you will be there.

When the roll is called up yonder, will you be there?”

The hymn “When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder” was inspired by the following:

I. The concept of the Book of Life: This biblical idea refers to a record kept by God that determines who will be granted eternal salvation.

II. A missing child in James Milton Black’s Sunday school class: Black, the hymn’s writer, was deeply affected by the absence of a child while taking attendance. Then, the thought of someone missing out on being present in Heaven motivated him.

III. The urgency of salvation: After visiting the sick child and failing to find a hymn addressing this concern, Black wrote the song as a reminder to strive for a place in Heaven.

Back to you: When the roll (Book of life) is called-up-yonder (opened) on the judgement day, will you be there? For your name not to be missing, you must accept Jesus as your personal Lord and saviour.

QuoteThe greatest loss that can befall any man is to miss heaven.

Prophetic Decree: Satanic altars warring against your soul are pulled down and roasted to ashes, in Jesus name.

Prayer Focus

1. Say: Lord Jesus, I accept you today as my personal Lord and saviour. Come into my life and dwell there. Wash me off my many sins with your Blood, and grant me grace to live for you till the very end unwavering, in Jesus name.

2. Sing the song, “Book of Life” by Pastor Nathaniel Bassey; available on YouTube

3. Sing the song, “Heaven” by JayMikee et al; available on YouTube.

4. Easily besetting sins dragging me back to the world, I overpower you by the grace of God.

5. Any satanic wall of partition between me and receiving the Gospel of Christ, be broken, in Jesus name.
