Bible Reading:  2 Kings 2: 9-15

Memory VerseTaking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to distribute to the people. Luke 9:16 (NIV)

A wise man once said that if all that you have is money, then you are poor. Other kingdom currencies you can use to buy the future and a good life include:

4. Anointing — Currency of Power and Influence: The anointing is the empowerment of the Holy Spirit to fulfil your divine assignments. Isaiah 10:27 says, “And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away… because of the anointing.” Ask many rich people and they will tell you that many times, money has failed them. There are many (rich and poor) looking for solution to a problem only the anointing of God can solve.

Example: The anointing on Elisha allowed him to perform miracles that brought national deliverance (2 Kings 2:9-15). God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him (Acts 10:38).

5. Service — Currency of Greatness and Reward: Many want to be great but don’t want to serve. By service, I mean selfless contributions to others’ needs and God’s work. There’s a grace that only comes through service – using your God-given gifts and talents for the Master and humanity. Matthew 23:11 says, “But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.” Friends, until people around you see how selfless you are in dispensing your gifts and talents, they may not recommend you for greater open doors.

Example: Jesus washed His disciples’ feet as a model of leadership through service (John 13:12-17). Timothy, the young bishop, was recommended to Paul having served well in his local parish. Engr. Chidomere Ndubuisi served his boss before a great door opened to him. It was after a hearty service that Cosmas Maduka was released to start his own business. Service attracts God’s reward and human recognition.

6. Gratitude — Currency of Multiplication and Preservation: Many are becoming bunch of ingrates. They are not grateful for what they have either from God or from men. By gratitude we mean expressing thankfulness to God and man.

Example: “And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples…” (John 6:11). Jesus gave thanks before multiplying the five loaves and two fish. The story is told of a domestic staff who thanked his boss for the house he gave him. Guess what? His boss gave him a befitting furniture for the same house. Gratitude is first a thing of the mind. Cultivate gratitude. Learn to say thank you. Gratitude opens the door for God to multiply what you have.

4. My Father, please show me the path of life; because in Your presence is fullness of joy; and at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (Psalm 16:11).
