Bible Reading: 1 Timothy 2: 1-4

Memory VerseAfter removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’ Acts 13:32 (NIV)

A former governor in Nigeria was reported to have said “Nigeria is Too Weak to Break. Who will break it? The ordinary person in Jigawa or the ordinary person in Sokoto or the ordinary person in Bayelsa? Is it the Igbo vulcaniser or the Yoruba woman selling kerosene by the roadside or the okada man in Delta? They don’t have the capacity to unite because they are burdened by poverty. We have taken away from them their dignity, their self-esteem, their pride and self-worth so that they cannot even organize. Up there, we (elite) unite. We will never allow Nigeria to break because once it breaks, we will lose. But the common man loses nothing. What is he losing? He is already in hell; he cannot lose anything more than this hell” If this statements are true, then this is a sorry case. The life of the citizenry cannot be better than the quality of their leaders.

Christians, it is high time we began to see politics and government as a calling. The notion that politics is a dirty game must be removed from our mentality. Politics itself isn’t a dirty game, it is the personality of the people involved that makes it dirty. Daniel was a political leader in his days. There were very corrupt politicians also in his time who planned to skim him out, yet his adherence to Biblical principles proved them all wrong. Joseph was another politician of great wisdom and track record. He also stood for Jehovah. Our future, and our children’s future left in the hands of corrupt politicians who makes the laws of the land will remain ever bleak. Please let’s tell ourselves the truth. Friends, these corrupt politicians are only thinking about themselves and their families. Arise O Zion, gird up your loins. Have you got a calling for governance? It is high time you began to fortify yourself spiritually and mentally in God. Stand on the virtue of righteousness, holiness, selfless service, peace, unity and integrity.

QuoteIf politics is a dirty game, go there with your own new brand of soup, and play a clean game.
