Bible Reading: Proverbs 28:20
Memory Verse: Wealth from get-rich-quick schemes quickly disappears; wealth from hard work grows over time. Proverbs 13:11 (NLT)
More lessons from the life of Michael Caroll. He was that man who went back as a refuse collector despite winning $10 million dollar in lottery.
4. God Is More Interested in Who You’re Becoming Than What You’re Possessing: Sudden wealth without the wisdom to steward it often leads to waste. Carroll’s story exemplifies how money obtained without process or discipline tends to be squandered. The tragedy is not just that Carroll lost money; it’s that the character, wisdom, and values needed to preserve that wealth were never built. Prosperity without purpose leads to destruction. God gives us blessings for impact, not just enjoyment.
5. Return Is Always Possible: Though Carroll lost everything, he has shown some humility in returning to a simple life, working again as a refuse collector. In that, there’s a subtle echo of repentance, like the Prodigal Son returning home. The wisdom in this is that even when we waste our “inheritance,” God welcomes us back if we repent and humble ourselves.
6. The True Measure of Wealth: Carroll’s story challenges our perception of wealth. He had what many dream of, yet lacked peace, joy, and purpose. True wealth is not in your bank account, but in your soul. Matthew 6:19-21, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth… For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
In conclusion, Michael Carroll’s story is not just one of loss, it is a parable for reflection, a warning about unearned success, and a call to godly stewardship. Whether we have little or much, the lesson remains: character, wisdom, and surrender to God matters more than wealth.
Quote: Sudden wealth without the wisdom to steward it often leads to waste. Prepared before opportunities come knocking.
