Bible Reading:  Galatians 5:22-23

Memory Verse:  He who is slow to anger is better and more honorable than the mighty [soldier], And he who rules and controls his own spirit, than he who captures a cityProverbs 16:32 (AMP)

In this dying world where everything is transient, you will need to equip yourself spiritually and mentally for any eventuality.  You may not be able to determine what will happen to you at all times, but it is your responsibility to determine how you will respond to them.

Both your negative and positive emotions must be well managed.  You must learn to manage both your failures and successes; bad times and good times, happy mood and unhappy mood, joyful times and sad times. How do you react when someone lash out at you? How do you react when your expectations are not met? How do you react in really difficult situations? Today, let’s lay a spiritual foundation to managing your emotions, and by extension, managing yourself.

1. Spiritual Foundations:

A. Prayer and Dependence on the Holy Spirit: Recognize that self-control is a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Regularly pray for the Holy Spirit’s guidance and strength to manage your emotions. When faced with a challenging situation, take a moment to pray before reacting.

B. Scripture and Meditation: Study and meditate on relevant Bible verses about patience, love, and self-control (e.g., Proverbs 16:32, Ephesians 4:26, Romans 12:18).  Allow God’s Word to renew your mind and shape your responses.

C. Focus on Christ’s Example: Reflect on how Jesus responded to difficult situations with grace and compassion. Strive to emulate His character in your interactions with others.

D. Anchor your faith on past testimonies: When you remember where God has brought you from, you will be encouraged to trust Him in your present situation. He did it yesterday, and He will do it again. Jesus remains the same yesterday, today, and forevermore (Hebrews 13:8).

E. Forgiveness: Practice forgiveness, both for others and yourself. Holding unto anger and resentment can fuel negative reactions. Remember that God’s forgiving us should lead us to forgive others.

Quote: You will continue to suffer if you have an emotional reaction to everything that is said to you. True power is sitting back and observing everything in God’s wisdom – ‘What will Jesus do’. If words control you that means everyone else can control you. Learn to breathe and allow some things to pass.

Prophetic Decree: Receive grace to live a life fully yielded and controlled by the Holy Spirit, in Jesus name.

Prayer Focus

1. I repent in anyway my responses have negated my faith, in Jesus name.

2. Holy Spirit, I am helpless without You. Please help me rule over my situation, in Jesus name.

3. Life in the Word of God, saturate my bitter soul, in Jesus name.

4. I receive grace to focus on Jesus, the author and finisher of my faith, in Jesus name.

5. Holy Spirit, please help me to be quick to hear, slow to anger, and slow to speak, in Jesus name.

6. Holy Spirit, please saturate my heart with Your presence and fire, in Jesus name.
