MODERN DAY CHURCH: WE NEED REVIVAL AND NOT ENTERTAINMENT

MODERN DAY CHURCH: WE NEED REVIVAL AND NOT ENTERTAINMENT

Bible Reading:  Acts 3: 19-21
Memory Verse: O LORD, I have heard the report of You; I stand in awe, O LORD, of Your deeds. Revive them in these years; make them known in these years. In Your wrath, remember mercy!  Habakkuk 3:2 (BSB)

Revival has sparked time and again all over the world. In America, there was the Great Awakening of 1734 -1743, the second Great Awakening 1800- 1840, the Businessmen’s Revival of 1857-1858, the Azusa Street Revival of 1906, etc. Notable revival in Nigeria is the Apostle Babalola’s revival of 1930, the South Africa Cape’s Great Awakening in 1860, etc. Five quick differences between a true revival and church entertainment found in some modern day churches include:

  1. Revival involves the operation of the Holy Spirit in which people would be convicted of their sins and would repent, and even weep and become sober minded. Church entertainment will try as much as possible not to make people feel offended; it tends to make people feel at home with God when God could be angry toward them.
  2. Revival is a spiritual awakening and a kind of divine visitation in which people’s spirits, souls and bodies receive freedom to seek God, know God and please God. Church entertainment involves everything a church is doing to make the congregation feel happy, pleased and excited with no regard to the salvation of their souls and their spiritual growth.
  3. When there’s revival, there’s a visible manifestation of God’s power, there would be undeniable miracles and everyone will know that God is in the midst of His people. Entertainment only involves all forms of human wisdom, skills, talents and sometimes lusts, such that the people are only carnally excited but can’t feel God’s Power.
  4. Revival produces an atmosphere where people can be edified spiritually and grow in the knowledge of God. Church entertainment only produces an atmosphere where church members will be carnally excited via comedy, sensual music and dance, uninspired sermons, etc
  5. Revival is a demonstration of grace such that people will receive power to live above sin and obey the will of God. But, church entertainment is a strategy of the church leaders to gain from the people as well as multiply the number of church attendance without recourse whether people are doing the will of God or not.

Quote:  Revival is the visitation of God which brings to life Christians who have been sleeping and restores a deep sense of God’s near presence and holiness – J. I. Parker
Prophetic Decree: May the fire of spiritual revival and reawakening burn in all the earth, in Jesus mighty name.
Prayer Focus

  1. Thank you Father for your rain of revival coming to sweep the surface of the earth.
  2. O Lord, set our hearts on fire for you, in Jesus name.
  3. Send down revival Lord, let it start within our soul, in Jesus name.
  4. Pentecostal revival fire as in the days of the Old, burn upon our altars, in Jesus name.
  5. Anti-revival powers, persons, and personalities, die, in Jesus name.

To be anointed means to be set apart, empowered, and authorized by God for His purposes through the Holy Spirit. In Scripture, anointing is never about status or title; it is about divine enablement for obedience and service...

Bless God for Pastor Mrs Anwinli Ojeikere. Destiny is not built on shortcuts but on solid character. Look at Genesis 39:2, the Lord was with Joseph and he was a successful man. So, if he had succumbed to the test from Potiphar's wife, he would have missed out on fulfilling his destiny...
