Bible Reading: 1 Timothy 6: 6-10, Proverbs 10:22

Memory VerseThe love of money causes all kinds of trouble. Some people want money so much they have given up their faith and caused themselves a lot of pain. 1 Timothy 6:10 (CEV)

Money is neither good nor bad. Money takes on the attitude/character of its owner. Even the Bible acknowledges the importance of money when it said, “Money is a defense” (Eccl 7:12). It also went on to say, “…money answers all things” (Eccl 10:19). But, we need to be careful with the way we handle money. Money in the hands of a genuine Christian will do so much for the propagation of the kingdom of God, while the same money in the hands of a chronic sinner is a weapon of oppression, perversion and all manner of evil. That is why it is otherwise called Currency.

What are you currently doing with that money in your hands and to whose glory? Money is a spirit. The Bible calls it the spirit of mammon. Rather than the Bible saying you cannot serve God and the devil, the Bible says, “You cannot serve God and mammon” (Mat. 6:24). Mammon is perhaps worst than the devil. A situation whereby a weapon is more disastrous than its user. Brethren, in our quest for more money, please do not forget God. Winston Churchill, former UK Prime Minister was reported to have said: “I took the taxi one day and went to the BBC office for an interview and when I arrived I asked the driver to wait for me for forty minutes until I got back. But the driver apologized and said ‘I can’t because I have to go home to listen to Winston Churchill’s speech’.

Churchill says he was amazed and delighted with this man’s desire to listen to his conversation!  So, Churchill took ten pounds and gave to the taxi driver without telling the driver who he was. When the driver collected the money he said: “I’ll wait hours until you come back, sir! And let Churchill go to hell!” Principles have been lowered because of money. Nations are being sold for money. Honour have been traded for money. Brothers have killed one another because of money. Families have been separated because of money. Friends have been separated because of money. Today and always, go out to make money legitimately without compromising the standards of God. He that will not work let him not eat (2 Thes. 3:10). We preach balance.

QuoteMost people fail to realize that money is both a test and trust from God – RickWarren
