Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 4:8-9, Philippians 3: 5-6

Memory VerseMany are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all. Psalm 34:19 (NHEB)

This is the amazing story of Emmanuel Oluwasayomi Ahmadu, a.k.a Mr Voiceover, an award-winning voice-over artiste, Nollywood actor, anti-depression and suicide advocate. All was well in the family until his father and mother separated due to irreconcilable differences. He attended 16 primary schools and 14 secondary schools between 2010 and 2014 due to the persistent family crisis which resulted to psychological and mental imbalance. He attempted SSCE 17 times. He endured the pain to keep trying every year with the sole aim of passing without cheating in one sitting despite pressures to succumb. During this trying period, he saw quite a number of his junior colleagues who became master’s degree holders and some were already working while he was still wearing secondary school uniform to repeat SSS1 and SSS2. Teachers nicknamed him “Coconut Head”. During a time, he was rewriting his SSCE, the last born of his family was also preparing for his first attempt in same exam while other junior siblings and his elder brother were already in higher institutions. Imagine such trauma but he kept hope alive. He studied to the best of his knowledge but, in the end, he kept failing until something happened in 2014. THE GOD FACTOR! He strengthened his relationship with God. Furthermore, he borrowed textbooks, attended private lessons with best students in various subjects, got SSCE syllabus from experienced teachers who doubled as his personal tutors, and treated past questions on various subjects. Amazingly, all these efforts paid off as he eventually passed all his subjects in flying colours without cheating and got the best result in the school where he enrolled. Hear him: “I had the conviction that I wanted to pass without cheating in order to correct my past and to prepare for a promising future. Today, I am glad that I am a change agent contributing to tackling national and global problems. If I had quit school or succumbed to the pressure to indulge in exam malpractice, which is becoming a norm to many students and youths in Nigeria today, my story wouldn’t have been much different”. To the glory of God, today he is a university graduate in mass communication and in addition, he is the first university graduate in his family. Humm… what a grace that overtakes.

Lessons: 1. Family crisis and incessant family relocation can negatively affect a child. 2. Everything seems impossible until God comes into the equation with His hand of mercy. 3. Stay on your lane. Avoid sibling rivalry. There is no competition in destiny.

4. You will need God, apt focus, determination and integrity to succeed in life. 5. If your story must shake and bless your generation, many times, there is a pain to be endured.

Quote: Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm – WinstonChurchill
