Bible Reading: John 5: 39-47
Memory Verse: Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law. Psalm 119:18 ( NKJV)
Smith Wigglesworth is well known as the Apostle of Faith. He was quoted to have said this about the Bible, “The Bible is the Word of God: supernatural in origin, eternal in duration, inexpressible in valor, infinite in scope, regenerative in power, infallible in authority, universal in interest, personal in application, inspired in totality. Read it through, write it down, pray it in, work it out, and then pass it on. Truly it is the Word of God. It brings into man the personality of God; it changes the man until he becomes the epistle of God. It transforms his mind, changes his character, takes him on from grace to grace, and gives him an inheritance in the Spirit. God comes in, dwells in, walks in, talks through, and sups with him.”
The Word of God remains ordinary until the light of the Spirit of God shines on it in your spirit. This is called illumination. This is what happens when you hear people say, “I saw something in the Bible today though I have been reading the same verse / passage for many years” or “something hit me in this verse of the scripture”. What happened was that the light of God (Illumination of the Spirit of God) shined on that part of the scripture specifically, and it became a revelation in the person’s soul. It is illumination that brings about fresh revelation.
One way to connect fastest to illumination is by speaking in tongues before reading your Bible. Please take note. Revelation could be slippery. Infact, spiritual things are generally very slippery. Hence, you must document (write) down your revelation, else you forget. Imagine a man shine a torch on a piece of paper for you to read what is written in one minute. If you refuse to write what down what you saw, you may forget. The dullest pencil it is said is sharper than the sharpest brain.
Your attitude to the Word of God determines what you will bring out from the Word. Brethren, shall we begin to approach the Word of God with the right attitude in order to receive something specific (rhema) from God. It is the Spirit that quickens, the flesh profits nothing (John 6:63). Furthermore, it is one thing to receive a revelation borne out of illumination from God, and it is another thing to walk in accordance to the what has been received. Only the doers of the Word shall be saved and not the hearers only (James 1:22).
In summary, before reading the Word of God:
1. Charge up your spirit man by praying in tongues (you can also worship God).
2. Read the Word meditatively in search for illumination (where the light of God is particularly pointing to).
3. Document your revelation.
4. Act accordingly to the revelation revealed.
Quote: We must allow the Word of God to confront us, to disturb our security, to undermine our complacency and to overthrow our patterns of thought and behavior – JohnStott.
Prophetic Decree: Receive fresh undying fire for the Word of God.
