Bible Reading: Luke 17: 1-4

Memory Verse: For in many things we all offend. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.James 3:2

Offence is an emotional state or response resulting from displeasure, hurt, anger and outrage usually caused by the words and actions of people (James 3:2). The word “offence” is from the Greek word “skandalizo”. It means to trap or snare oneself. Do you understand what that implies? Those who live in offence have their lives and destinies trapped (stagnated) by themselves. Spiritually and even physically, offence ties your hands, legs, head, mind and heart. Offence can also mean stumbling block. Offence is the root of all bitterness, resentment, unforgiveness, hatred, malice, etc.

Don’t consider the subject of offence as trivial. This is one of the very potent weapon Satan use to pull men down and prevent good things and prophecies from coming to pass. Though both were anointed and called by God, the spirit of offence tore Paul and Barnabas apart. Even John the Baptist was offended in Jesus. Offence has the potential to abort prophecies. Apostle Paul pleaded with Philemon not to lay hold unto the offence of Onesimus.

Offence has empowered the operation of witchcraft in the life of many people. Different foul spirits keep roaming about in families in spite of our prayers, fasting and kingdom service because of offence. There are too many things in life that can offend us, hence, you are to guard your heart with all diligence. Being offensive and being offended have their root in self – self-worth, self-esteem and self-centeredness. Offence settles on our mind as demonic strongholds. It then begins to recycle thoughts of bitterness, revenge and hatred, etc., and this gives birth to crisis in our relationship. The spirit of offence will cause you to betray your loyalty to Jesus.

One key to living above offence is to choose to walk in love. Offence will take from you but will never give anything back to you. The Lord must grant us grace to forgive men even before they ever offend us. Hear this: The spirit of offence is coming after something greater and bigger than the issue at stake. Watch it before it steals your harvest. 12% of people leave Church for reasons of death and transfer while 68% leave because of offences.
