Bible Reading: Job 14: 1-2
Memory Verse: You do not even know what will happen tomorrow! What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. James 4:14 (BSB)
Life is a beautiful journey that is meant to be embraced to the fullest every day. However, sometimes we need reminders that life is a great gift. Job described life as a “fleeting shadow” (Job 14:2). David describes life as a “mere handbreadth” (Ps. 39:5). James described life as a “mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes” (James 4:14). It is interesting that these three men, each separated by approximately a thousand years, each existing in vastly different living conditions and situations all spoke about the frailty of life. Really, what is life? Life is like a leaf that grows and then withers after a while.
The true essence of life is the purpose for which it was made. In the school of life, a man lives today, and tomorrow he is gone. In the school of life, sometimes there are no permanent friends neither are there permanent enemies. Life is like a cake. You take a chunk, and you leave the scene for another to eat theirs. In life, men are only remembered for what they do. Life presents everyone whether old or young, great or small, rich or poor equal opportunities every 24 hours.
At the end of time, Life hands over to his younger brother called death which swallows both the rich and poor, fat and slim, good and bad. Death is a leveller. However, a life without Christ is the most unfortunate type of life. A life without Christ is a life destined for eternal doom. A life without Christ will surely suffer loss. Dear brother, are you thinking about life after time? Dear sister, are you thinking of life in eternity? At the end of life, the cars, mansions, money, influence, affluence, etc, will all not matter. All that will matter are: Did you give your life to Christ because that will be your visa to heaven? Did you discover God’s purpose for your life? And, how well did you fulfill your purpose on earth? Think on these things. Selah
