Bible Reading: Proverbs 16:3, Deut. 28:12-13

Memory Verse: Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come. Psalm 102:13 (KJV)

No Left Over is a full scale catering outfit which started with a takeoff capital of #1,000 (GBP 4, USD 6), but has grown into what today has an annual turn-over that runs into millions of Naira. The company was borne out of desperation for achievement. The CEO, Mrs Yemisi Ayodeji Megbope at that time was about to turn 40 and she had not achieved anything substantial. She had heard so much about following one’s passion but she just couldn’t place her finger on what her passion was. She felt that since she loved working with children, she would open a daycare center.

She attended a Montessori program but after the course realized that though she loves children, it wasn’t bringing a spark to her life. One day she collected the only #1,000 left with her husband and gave moimoi a trial. She put away any form of shame, went back to her former place of work to sell the moimoi, and her finances began to boom. Later on, she saw in an article that an American company, Goldman Sachs wanted to invest in women who had been running their businesses for not less than 6 months and even though she didn’t have a university degree or the #200,000 admission fee, she boldly went for it. She pleaded to pay in instalment. There, they became fascinated by the story of her humble beginning with just #1,000 and soon, the door of America opened for her.

What a mighty God! As her business grew, the need to go to a business school arose. Mrs Megbope also lives a life of impart and it gives her great joy to see youths growing to becoming meaningful in the society. She soon graduated from moin-moin to soups and other foods after a few month as people began to order different foods. Although she had no idea of making soups like Oha and Edikaikong, she humbled herself to learning from the market women who sold the condiments to her and they also taught her the tricks about the soup. She was a speaker at the Clinton Global Initiative at the White House with world leaders in attendance and has also addressed the Annual General Meeting of Goldman Sachs in New York both in 2009.

Lessons:

1. Not until you are tired of where you are, you are not ready for your next level.

2. Don’t be afraid to start small. Infact, many times, life is designed to start this way. If you are too big to start small, then you are too small to grow big.

3. Get it right, then, get it better done. Keep adding to your skill set.

4. Just one opportunity can lead you to a life of countless breakthroughs.

5. Never be ashamed to start the business of your dream even if it is unpopular.

6. Destiny changing opportunities requires a lot of prayers, humility, determination, resilience, and above all God’s grace.

QuoteProfit is not the legitimate purpose of business. The legitimate purpose of business is to provide a product or service that people need and do it so well that it’s profitable – Oluyemisi  Megbope.
