Bible Reading: Revelation 2: 4-5
Memory Verse: O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. Psalm 63:1 (NLT)
It is a wise thing to sing this song daily, “Give me Oil in my lamp keep me burning.” There are many spiritual lives running on reserve. Save for grace, they could have completely backslid. Many are a shadow of what they used to be. The fire of God is not burning like it used to. The quest for material wealth, the distraction of our times, ungodly friends, the demands of work, oversleeping, overeating, satanic attack, etc., have dimmed a once burning and shining light.
There are simple parameters to gauge your spiritual fire? First, your personal devotional time with the Lord. What is the quality of encounter with God from your personal altar? When last did you feel the Shekinah glory of God come into your abode? By extension, what is your present attitude towards personal Bible study and prayer? Be warned! Even as a minister of the Gospel, it is possible to be working for the Lord, but not working with God. Outwardly, people are seeing your kingdom service, but inwardly, you could be very dry. Don’t deceive yourself. Schedule a retreat quickly.
Secondly, your attitude towards soul winning. Many used to be aggressive soul winners, but are now docile. It doesn’t take much to evangelise. Simply share your salvation experience. Talk about the love of God.
Thirdly, your attitude towards kingdom service. No matter how busy you are, if you are not serving God with your gift and talents, you are wasting heaven’s resources over your life. It is sad but true that many people will stay longer than expected on the same point because they have failed the test of commitment and loyalty to the work of their Father. Kingdom service that doesn’t cost anything may not benefit your destiny much.
Brethren, in a world that is continually busy, you must define your priorities. Fire will not fall upon your altar if there is no wood. You will always have time for what you consider important. Be wary of the myth, “there is no time.”
In conclusion, the first thing the devil wants to steal is your passion for God. Your bank account can be growing fatter, you have promotion at work, etc., while your passion for God is dwindling. Satan won’t steal everything at once. Satan steals subtly. One layer then another layer. He could be patient for many years. Every other aspect of your life is powered by our spiritual life. Don’t lose your passion for God for any mundane thing of this world.
Quote: Guard your heart means guard your passion. Don’t pursue things of lesser value. Pursue God!
Prophetic Decree: I command every satanic structure against your spiritual fervency to scatter, in Jesus name.
