Bible Reading: Psalm 39:6, Ecclesiastes 2:19
Memory Verse: So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Psalm 90:12
Life is a precious gift, yet many people spend most of it preparing for a future they may never see. They work hard, save diligently, postpone their dreams, and tell themselves they will enjoy life after retirement. While planning for the future is wise, life repeatedly reminds us that tomorrow is not guaranteed.
A pastor recently shared the painful experience of losing several close friends over a short period. These were people who had struggled, worked, built families, acquired properties, and looked forward to enjoying retirement together. Sadly, many died before reaching that season. Their stories serve as a sobering reminder that life is temporary and unpredictable.
The Bible encourages planning. Joseph stored food during years of abundance to prepare for famine (Genesis 41:35-36), and Proverbs commends the ant for preparing ahead (Proverbs 6:6-8). However, God never intended preparation to rob us of our present joy.
Jesus spoke about a rich man who accumulated wealth and made elaborate plans for the future, only to die that very night (Luke 12:16-21). His mistake was not planning; it was assuming he controlled tomorrow.
Many people make the same error today. They postpone rest, family time, ministry, travel, generosity, and personal dreams until a “better time.” Yet children grow up, loved ones pass away, health changes, and opportunities disappear.
Solomon concluded that one of God’s gifts is for a person to enjoy the fruit of his labour (Ecclesiastes 5:18). God wants us not only to work but also to appreciate His blessings while we have the opportunity.
This devotional is not encouraging recklessness or wastefulness. Save wisely. Invest wisely. Prepare for the future. But also make time to enjoy your family, strengthen friendships, pursue your God-given dreams, serve God faithfully, and celebrate His goodness.
The healthiest approach to life is balance: prepare responsibly for tomorrow while gratefully enjoying today.
Quote: Plan for tomorrow, but do not postpone living. The future is uncertain, but today is God’s gift to you.
Prophetic Decree: Every covenant with untimely death is broken, in Jesus name.
Prayer Focus
Thank you Father for the gift of life. I prophesy that the devil, ignorance, carelessness, and sickness shall not cut my life short, in Jesus name. Please teach me to number my days wisely. Help me to prepare for the future without neglecting the blessings You have given me today. May I enjoy the fruit of my labour, cherish my loved ones, and live each day for Your glory, in Jesus name. Amen.
