Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes 11: 4
Memory Verse: If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done. Ecclesiastes 11:4 (TLB)
Procrastination is the act of delaying or putting off tasks until the last minute, or past deadline. Some researchers define procrastination as a “form of self-regulation failure characterized by the irrational delay of tasks despite potentially negative consequences”. Respectfully speaking beloved, I have seen people with very bright destinies waste away as a result of procrastination. They will never do the right things at the right time until life leaves them by. I have also seen very intelligent students miss destiny changing opportunities because they didn’t learn the right skill set due to the monster called procrastination.
No wonder Karen Lamb said, “A year from now you may wish you had started today”. Researchers suggest that procrastination can be particularly pronounced among students. A 2007 meta analysis published in the Psychological Bulletin found that a whopping 80% to 95% of college students procrastinated on a regular basis, particularly when it came to completing assignments and coursework. When will you take a giant step towards starting that business? Won’t you stop procrastinating buying that property? When will you sit for that professional examination after 3 years of procrastinating? The timing may never be perfect.
Do something this year. Set a time right now and prayerfully pursue it. Why leave the house chores till late in the evening when you had all day to yourself? What are those office files still doing on your table 5 hours after resumption of work? “You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today” says Abraham Lincoln. One of the biggest factors contributing to procrastination is the notion that we have to feel inspired or motivated to work on a task at a particular moment. This is where you will need the Holy Ghost through personal self-discipline. Discipline yourself to always do the right thing, at the right time, in the right way, all to the glory of God.
Quote: Procrastination is the arrogant assumption that God owes you another chance to do tomorrow what He gave you the chance to do today – BishopRosieS. O’neal.
