Bible reading: John 4:22-24
Memory Verse: The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit. Psalm 34:18 (NKJV)
Years back, I went for a student retreat. What I saw remain memorable until now. I arrived some few days before the students’ retreat was to commence, to meet a ministers’ retreat in progress. On a particular morning, I went to the toilet to empty my bowels. Amazingly, I saw these ministers many of whom were General Overseers, Superintendent, Deacons, etc, doing the clean up. I was deeply rattled. They welcomed me and encouraged me to use any of the toilets. What a broken heart of service!
That wasn’t all in my spiritual adventure. Then, it was time to eat. Because God is no respecter of persons, every one present had to line up to be served. A sight caught my attention. It was a sitting State Governor on the queue with his plate. A plastic plate for that matter! “What is happening over here”, I asked rhetorically.
Such is a heart of service! Where are you on the scale of God? Some people are too proud of themselves. How can you come early to the Church and sit elegantly doing nothing. Perhaps, you are not in the ushering department, are you not irritated that your Father’s chair is dusty? Must you be told or cajoled? Some have spent 3 years in the fellowship but don’t belong to any group. You are doing yourself a big disfavour by being lukewarm.
Repent beloved, strip yourself of subtle pride. Humble yourself and serve God with your talents anywhere you find yourself. The reward is great both on this earth and in heaven.
Quote: God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.
Prophetic Word: Receive Divine empowerment to serve God relentlessly, in Jesus name.
