Bible Reading: Proverbs 18: 20-21

Memory Verse:  Let your speech at all times be gracious and pleasant, seasoned with salt, so that you will know how to answer each one [who questions you].  Colossians 4:6 (AMP)

Life and death the Bible says are in the power of the tongue. Words are like eggs, once spoken, may never be retrieved wholesomely. To show the importance of words, the Bible says God honours His Words above His name. Words are the building blocks of life. The whole creation was formed as a result of spoken words (Genesis 1). Jesus said, “The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” John 6:63b (NKJV).

Some people are in the prison today because of the words that came out of their mouth. Doors of opportunity that could change a man’s destiny have been shut because a man spoke negatively about the would-be recipient of such favour. Please don’t forget: Your character is a prophecy. Your character are words wrapped round your person and your name. Your character will open more doors for you than any of your qualification. Your character are words spoken into your future.

Yehuda Berg states, “Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble.” The words we choose and how we use them can build others up or tear them down; bring the community together or rip it apart. If many couples and friends have learnt about correctly framing their words perhaps many homes and relationship could have been sustained. Our words are powerful, and should be treated with respect.

Speak with mindfulness. Be mindful of the words you use and the effect they have. Mindfulness is more than just thinking before speaking. It’s recognizing the people around us and promoting a more compassionate society through our language choice. Rather than speaking out emotionally and uncontrollably on any issue, mindfulness means giving careful consideration and thought to how your words could impact others. It means recognizing poor language choice and readjusting to live a more loving life. Make up your mind that you will never leave anyone worse than you met them by the choice of your words.

QuoteKind words are a creative force, a power that concurs in the building up of all that is good, and energy that showers blessings upon the world – Lawrence G. Lovasik.
