Bible Reading:  1 Thessalonians 4: 3-5

Memory Verse:  For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality. 1 Thessalonians 4:3 (ESV)

He is Mr. R. Jacob. He was the first born of 13 children -12 boys and one girl. As he grew up, he started having some feelings. Something in him started demanding for sex. Though he has heard his father warned severally that sex is only permitted within the context of marriage, what he was going through was beyond what words can express which his “old school” dad did not understand. The thought of sex consumed him so much that he became passionately desperate. Then one day, dad went out. All his brothers were busy and his little sister was probably playing outside the house. His dad had this little wife who was so beautiful and physically endowed. He has been lusting after her secretly. So, he grabbed her one hot afternoon. At that point, he was off his mind. Temporarily insane you may say. He removed her clothes and pushed her down right there in his father’s bedroom! He slept with his father’s wife on his father’s bed! His siblings arrived home. His dad eventually arrived from his trip. He said nothing. No one said anything. He never knew his dad heard about what he did but behaved as though nothing happened. Days rolled into weeks, weeks into months, and months into years. He thought it was hidden. Eventually his dad became very old and sick. One day, he summoned all his children to meet him in his bedroom. As he called his name, his voice pierced through Reuben’s entire being and he bowed his head in fear. This is what his father said to him that day. “YOU ARE Reuben, …my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity, and the excellency of power. BUT NOW you will be unstable as water, you shalt not excel; because you went up to your father’s bed; and defiled it: he went up to my couch” (Genesis 49:3-4). His own dad placed a curse on him. That no matter how he labour in life, he will never excel! That was too heavy for him to bear. He wept bitterly as he left his dad’s presence into outer darkness of unproductive labour. It was the beginning of his sorrow. What can you learn from this story? 1. Tame your libido. 2. Sex outside of marriage between a man or woman will ever remain wrong. 3. An unconfessed sin does not die. 4. Honour your parents. #PVO
