Bible Reading: Luke 17: 3-4
Memory Verse: Later Peter approached Jesus and said, “How many times do I have to forgive my fellow believer who keeps offending me? Seven times?” Jesus answered, “Not seven times, Peter, but seventy times seven times! Matthew 18:21-22 (TPT)
…Continued from yesterday
- A soldier on a peace keeping mission, who loved his wife very dearly, kept sending money home to build a befitting home for his family. When he came back from the peace keeping mission, he was confronted with a rude shock despite risking his life in the war. A man came out of the house with children. Obviously, his wife had married another man. She has also been using his hard earned money to train another man’s children. He was bitter and enraged. His predicament fell on deaf ears when he reported the case to his wife’s family. He vowed never to forgive her. Trust the devil, he will capitalise on such.
Soon, he developed haemorrhage (an escape of blood from a ruptured blood vessel). This testimony depicts that the devil could capitalise on unforgiveness in a man’s heart, not only to close his heavens, but to also afflict him with sickness. This retired soldier now had to wear pampers to collect the flow of blood from his private part. One day, he walked into a service, and the man of God gave him a word from the Lord: “Forgive your wife”. Guess what he said, Never! He said he would rather remain with his predicament than to forgive his wife. Never tow the path of unforgiveness no matter the pain. Receive grace to forgive. The devil is very legalistic. When you contradict the Word of God on any matter, no matter your personal justification, you suffer the consequences.
6. Ahitophel symbolises a gifted but emotionally immature person who will rather hold-on to a matter, and probably never forgives anyone, not even himself! He held on to a matter, and conspired against David when Absalom overthroned him. (Ahitophel was the grandfather of Bathsheba, whom David defiled and killed Uriah, her husband). No wonder he conspired with Absalom, David’s son, to usurp the throne away from his father. Secondly, when David’s enemies rejected his counsel, he held on to that, and killed himself. He couldn’t forgive others neither could he forgive himself. He eventually committed suicide (2 Samuel 11:3, 2 Samuel 23:34, 2 Samuel 15:12). Stop holding on too much to any matter.
Quote: Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends.
