Bible Reading: Ephesians 5: 18-19

Memory Verse:  With all watchfulness keep thy heart, because life issueth out from itProverbs 4:23 (DRB)

Concerning music, a brother who was once deep into worldly music has this to say: A particular world musician was my favourite singer when I wasn’t born again. The first thing I did when I wake up in the morning was to listen to his songs. And by midnight, before I go to bed, I’ll listen to his songs again. Each day I listened to him; I fell deeper into the well of depression. The craziest thing is that I enjoyed it.

His song dug out every sad memory and event I have experienced and brought them back to life. I don’t even know how it used to happen. His songs messed up my mind and soul, and I was enjoying it. I could stay for so many days without a smile on my face. His songs made me overthink. “There just had to be something behind his music”, I would say to myself without a clue what that was.

When I became born again, I still had his songs on my phone. We had an all-night vigil. So, on my way back home, I opened Boom play and played one of his song. Twenty seconds into the song, I began to feel uncomfortable. It was like my heart was on fire. I quickly turned off the music. I switched to playing songs by Hillsong United and I felt much better.

I felt relieved – at peace. I decided to start listening to Gospel music only, and to tell you the truth, my countenance changed. I started smiling more. I downloaded Christian songs. When you listen to Christian chants by the likes of Theophilus Sunday, for example, there’s a certain way you will feel – that Holy Ghost feeling, that you might not be able to explain.

As you keep on listening to his songs and chants, you’ll be drawn to the source of his sound. If truly the Holy Spirit is the source of his sound (which is), you’ll be drawn to the Holy Spirit as you constantly listen to it. You’ll have that burning desire to be intimate with the Holy Spirit. You’ll begin to feel empty with a great hunger to be filled. The same thing goes to secular and worldly songs.

They dragged me into the well of sadness and depression, because that’s the spirit behind these songs. Constantly listening to artistes that sing about sex and romance will gradually drag you into fornication, lust and masturbation. You might not know it. You might think it’s ONLY your fault. But these songs have been placed on ungodly altars before their release.

Quote:  There is no music that is devoid of a spirit. Be guided.

Prophetic Decree:  I command the grip of ungodly music to die in your life, in Jesus name.

Prayer Focus

1. I break the grip of worldly music in my life, in Jesus name.

2. Holy Spirit, please change my appetite for ungodly music, in Jesus name.

3. Holy Spirit, please deliver me from those ungodly sounds that arouse my appetite for sin and lust, in Jesus name.

4. Any strange spirit that has found its way into my heart, be expunged by fire, in Jesus name.

5. O Lord, please disconnect me from friends that draw me closer to ungodly music, in Jesus name.

THE QUIET DESTROYERS (2)

One of the greatest dangers in the life of a believer is not the sins everyone can see, but the ones that hide quietly in the heart. These sins rarely attract attention, yet they slowly drain spiritual strength and weaken a man’s destiny. Hebrews 12:1 says, “Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles”...
