Bible Reading: Matthew 28: 19-20.
Memory Verse: Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser, teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning. Proverbs 9:9.
The story is said of an old captain of a ship who often sail on the high sea and prone to attack by Pirates. When the pirates come attacking, usually he orders this younger sailor who happens to be his protégé to bring his red jacket. On a particular day, the young protégé who had always wondered why his master always fought with his red jacket summoned up courage to ask him why.
The answer he received shocked him. The old sailor said, “Sometimes during the course of a fight with the pirates, he sustains some injuries which could result in bleeding, but with the red jacket which matches the colour of blood stain, the injury won’t be obvious to other team members during the fight hence, no retreat no surrender”. He added, “Son, in your time, wear a red jacket!”
Two important lessons. First, every leader should put structures in place to keep their team motivated at all times. When the spinal cord of a leader is toughened, it automatically toughens the spines of his followers. Discipline simply means “doing a thing as demanded by the occasion and not as convenient”. Secondly, every great leader is a product of another great leader. Subject yourself to training and mentorship in your sphere of influence, be it in career, academics, ministry, etc.
Quote: Courage exhibited by every leader trickles down to the followers.
Prophetic Decree: Receive courage from Zion, in the name of Jesus.
