Bible Reading: Ephesians 5: 21-33
Memory Verse: Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Ephesians 5:21 (NIV)
Today, let’s look at God’s ordained type of marriage:
3. KINGDOM MARRIAGE: Kingdom marriage is God’s design. It is neither male domination nor female domination. It is Christ-centered partnership. In cultural marriage, the man is king. In contemporary marriage, self is king, but in kingdom marriage, Christ is King.
One of the most beautiful examples of kingdom marriage is found in Aquila and Priscilla (Acts 18). They served God together. They worked together. They discipled believers together. They hosted ministry together. Neither competed against the other. Neither sought superiority. They functioned as a team under Christ’s authority. This is kingdom marriage.
Another example is Mary and Joseph. When God entrusted them with the responsibility of raising Jesus, both submitted to God’s instructions. Joseph protected the family. Mary nurtured the child. Each fulfilled divine assignments without rivalry. Their focus was God’s purpose. The Principle of Interdependence!
In cultural marriage, women are dependent. In contemporary marriage, women are independent. In kingdom marriage, husband and wife become interdependent. The husband serves. The wife serves. Both honour each other. Both submit to Christ. Both seek each other’s good.
As Scripture teaches, “Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.” (Ephesians 5:21). Notice that before Paul discusses husbands and wives, he first discusses mutual submission to God.
In a kingdom, husband serves his wife whether they live in Africa, Europe, America, or Asia. Similarly, a kingdom wife honours and supports her husband whether she earns less or more. Their actions are not determined by culture. Their actions are not determined by feminism. Their actions are not determined by financial status. Their actions are determined by love.
The husband serves because Christ served him. The wife serves because Christ served her. Both kneel before the same King.
Take note: Many marriages fail not because the couple stopped loving each other but because they were operating on the wrong template. Culture changes. Society changes. Economic realities change. Countries change. But God’s principles do not change.
A kingdom marriage is portable. It works in every nation, every culture, and every generation because its foundation is Christ.
When both husband and wife stop asking, “Who is in charge?” and start asking, “How can I serve?” they begin to experience God’s original design for marriage.
The strongest marriage is not the one where the husband wins. It is not the one where the wife wins. It is the one where Christ reigns.
Prophetic Decree: Receive the fire of God to establish the kingdom of God in your marriage, in Jesus name.
Prayer Focus
Father, help me build my marriage according to Your Kingdom pattern. Deliver me from unhealthy cultural traditions and worldly philosophies. Teach me to love, serve, honour, and submit to Your will. Christ please remain the King of my home, and may my marriage reflect Your glory wherever we live, in Jesus name. Amen.
