Bible Reading: Proverbs 25:28

Memory Verse: He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls. Proverbs 25:28 (WBT)

Dele Olawanle is a coach, thinker, writer, and speaker. He once shared a personal testimony. He said: I started studying law in my 30s after having two young children. By the time I left the law school, they had become three. 

The people around me at the time gave me a thousand reasons why it was the wrong move due to my age, my family, my young children, my lack of immigration status, the number of years it would take me to complete the whole process, and the fact that I would have to pay for it privately. 

Rather than being discouraged, their negative reasons motivated me, and I saw the future benefits rather than the pain I would go through. It took me 7 years of pain, but I have had 26 years of living my dreams and counting. The family they wanted to use to discourage me is now one of the beneficiaries of my selflessness. 

Listen closely, if you don’t pay the price now, you will chase the prize for the rest of your life. 

I remember starting with several people, but most dropped out. One of them said the law books were too heavy. One said there was too much to read. Another said all his friends who read law could not get a job, but I told them I was not looking for a job but to create jobs, and it came to pass. 

Don’t let your emotions rule your life. How many people have you unfollowed on social media this year? They don’t even know you unfollowed them. Why are you punishing yourself? 

Emotion is what makes many people break up good relationships. It is emotion that makes people write or say things they will regret for the rest of their lives. It is emotion that makes people abandon their goals and projects. It is an emotion that will make someone go under another person’s post and abuse them. It is emotion that makes people attack people physically or verbally, either digitally or in person. It is emotion that makes people post their frustrations online. 

We all have issues. 

Weak people are controlled by their emotions, which makes them fail, but strong people are in control of their emotions, and it takes them to higher heights in life. 

If you control your emotions, you will conquer the world. You will make friends rather than lose friends. You will build institutions rather than become a corner shop. If you don’t understand this message, it is very simple: Grow up and stop being childish.

Prophetic Decree: Your emotions shall not truncate the best God has for you, in Jesus name. 

Prayer Focus 

1. Lord, I repent in every way I have allowed my emotions to control me, in Jesus name. 

2. Lord, strengthen my emotions, in Jesus name. 

3. Lord, turn people’s discouragement into a propeller for my destiny, in Jesus name. 

4. My emotions shall not disconnect me from destiny relationships God has designed to bless me, in Jesus name. 

5. Lord, please help me to grow up emotionally, spiritually and physically, in Jesus name. 

6. Holy Ghost overwhelm my emotions in Jesus name.
