WHAT IS SERVANT LEADERSHIP? (1)

WHAT IS SERVANT LEADERSHIP? (1)

Bible reading:  Matthew 20: 20-28.

Memory Verse:

Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. Matthew 20:26(NKJV)

There are two (2) types of systems that governs the earth – the World system and the God system (1 John 2:16). The world system is controlled by the devil and is always acting contrary to the God system which is controlled by God.

In the same vein, leadership exhibited by those who aren’t born again should be different from servant leadership preached by Jesus.

The world views leadership as a position of authority, dominance, control of resources, power and opportunity to amass wealth.

A servant leader on the contrary sees himself having an opportunity to serve a people of whom he will give an account for before the Creator. A servant leader is one who leads with others in mind. Be it in the secular world or in the Church, a servant leader never forgets that Jesus is the greatest leader and therefore, learns daily from Him through the Holy Spirit.

Servant leadership is a blend and balance between being a leader and at the same time, serving as a servant. You don’t lose leadership qualities when becoming a servant leader. A servant leader values diverse opinions, cultivates a culture of trust, develops other leaders, helps others with life issues, encourages, sells  and persuades while others command and control, thinks ‘you’ and not ‘me’; thinks long term, and acts in humility.

Key Point:        A servant leader “thinks you and not me.”

Prayer Point:

  1. Holy Spirit, give me the heart of a servant leader who places others first above oneself, in the name of Jesus.
  2. By the fire of the Holy Ghost, I provoke every leadership quality in me, in the name of Jesus.
