Bible Reading:  Luke 8:1-3

Memory Verse: I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a deacon of the church in Cenchreae. I ask you to receive her in the Lord in a way worthy of his people and to give her any help she may need from you, for she has been the benefactor of many people, including me. Romans 16: 1-2 (NIV)

David Green is renowned for his extraordinary generosity and commitment to Christian causes. With an estimated net worth of $14.8 billion (according to Forbes), Green attributes his wealth and achievements to his Christian faith and his belief in stewardship. In the early 1970s, Green and his wife, Barbara, started making miniature picture frames in their garage using a $600 loan. They sold these frames to retailers, gradually growing their small business.

In 1972, Green opened the first Hobby Lobby store in Oklahoma City specializing in arts and crafts supplies. Today, Hobby Lobby operates over 900 stores across the U.S., employs more than 50,000 people, and generates billions in annual revenue. David Green views his wealth as God’s resource, often stating, “God owns my business; I’m just a steward.”

He tithes and donates up to 50% of Hobby Lobby’s profits to Christian causes, focusing on education, ministry, and Bible distribution. Green involves his family in business operations and relies on prayer and biblical principles for decision-making. David Green’s philanthropy reflects his mission to glorify God by advancing education and ministry worldwide. He donated $120 million to a charitable trust for the educational fund of Evangel University, a Christian institution.

In 2007, he and his family contributed $70 million to save Oral Roberts University from financial crisis, ensuring the continuation of its faith-based mission. The Green family donated over $500 million to establish the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., which educates visitors on the Bible’s history and influence. Green gave approximately $30 million to Every Home for Christ, an evangelistic organization, which distributes Christian literature to homes worldwide.

He has donated millions to church planting initiatives, local congregations, and building projects, helping to expand outreach and reduce debt. Green has invested millions in efforts like the YouVersion Bible App and global Bible translation projects, ensuring access to Scripture worldwide. David Green’s life exemplifies how faith, hard work, and ethical business practices can lead to remarkable success. By attributing his achievements to God and using his resources to advance Christian causes, he has built a lasting legacy that impacts churches, education, and individuals globally.
