Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes 10:15, Jeremiah 48:10

Memory VerseThe LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. Deuteronomy 28:10 (NIV)

One way to manifest the glory of God as a son of God in this kingdom is through your finances. But, why are some Church folk’s poor?

1. Ignorance: Ecclesiastes 10:15 (AMP) says, “The labour of a fool so wearies him [because he is ignorant] that he does not even know how to go to a city.” Why are you doing what you are doing? Some people who are in ministry should have nothing to do with ministry. Late Apostle Babalola under the anointing of the Holy Ghost sent some pastors away from his school of prophets. He said God hadn’t call them to be pastors. R.G. Letourneau, the man who later built the earth moving equipment used in the second world war almost made the same mistake. Passion for God should not be mistaken for a call. The gifts of the Spirit upon you are not an evident calling into ministry. On the other hand, some people who should be in full time ministry are serving God on their own terms. Either way, the work of your hands will most likely suffer for it. God can only bless what He has ordained you to do. Whatever God commissions, He sponsors. And, whatever God does not commission, He is not under obligation to finance. Who told you to do what you are doing? To what capacity should you do what you are doing at this time? Are you working for God for material gain, for show biz, or to be a blessing to others?

2Deception: Jeremiah 48:10 (NKJV), “Cursed is he who does the work of the LORD deceitfully, And cursed is he who keeps back his sword from blood.” You call yourself an usher, church accountant, church treasurer, etc., but you dip your hands in the Church offering, church tithe, project offering or welfare offering, etc. If you don’t repent, a curse awaits you. Imagine someone drop a seed to send the arrow of the night which she received back to the sender, and in your covetousness, you stole it from the offering box. Please tell me what will be the lot? Holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord (Heb.12:14). Be content (1 Timothy 6:6).

3Laziness: Some people stay in church for 7-12 hours every day, but have no work, no means of livelihood. You don’t need to do that if you are not on the Church’s pay roll. Please don’t substitute kingdom service for skill acquisition. Both are complementary. Learn a skill. Learn a trade. Go to school. Earn other certifications. In Deuteronomy 28:12, the Lord promise to bless the work of your hands. Then, you have to present your works before the Lord if you must be blessed. Go do something with you own hands. 2 Thessalonians 3:10 (NKJV) says, “For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.”

Quote:  No work, no food – 2 Thes.  3:10
