Bible Reading: Job 8:7
Memory Verse: Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin. Zechariah 4:10 (NLT)
One of the greatest enemies of progress is the belief that you must start big before you can succeed. Many people are waiting for the perfect opportunity, a large amount of money, a prestigious position, or ideal conditions before they begin. Meanwhile, life keeps moving forward.
Consider the story of an Estate Development graduate who worked in the banking sector. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he lost his job like many others. Suddenly, the salary he depended on disappeared. He faced a difficult choice: sit down in self-pity or find something honest to do. He chose the second option.
Instead of allowing pride to keep him unemployed, he set shame aside and began selling “corporate ponmo” (spicy cow skin) in local markets in his corporate attire. Talk about branding! His sales call in the market is top notch. You will not have a choice but to notice him and “support his hustle.”
Some people may have looked down on him. Others may have wondered why a university graduate and former banker would be selling food in the market. But he understood a valuable principle: it is better to start somewhere than to remain nowhere.
Today, that humble venture generates about 5,000 in profit daily. Now, imagine if he repackaged the same “corporate ponmo” for people in the corporate sphere! What many people would have considered beneath them became the platform through which God provided for him and restored his confidence.
Lessons for Today
1. Never Let Pride Stop Progress: Many opportunities are missed because people worry too much about what others will say. Pride keeps some people unemployed while humility opens doors to provision.
2. Small Beginnings Can Lead to Great Results: Every large business was once small. Every expert was once a beginner. Every giant tree was once a seed.
3. Use What Is Available: The man did not wait for another banking job before acting. He used the opportunity within reach. God often blesses what is already in your hand.
4. Faith Moves While Waiting: Trusting God does not mean doing nothing. Faith takes responsible action while expecting God’s help.
Quote: It is better to start somewhere than to remain nowhere.
Prophetic Decree: May the good Lord lead you and establish you in the project of your prosperity, in Jesus name.
Prayer Focus
Father, deliver me from pride, fear, and discouragement. Help me not to despise small beginnings. Give me the wisdom to discover my project of prosperity. Give me the humility to start where I am and the wisdom to use what You have placed in my hands. Bless the work of my hands and lead me from small beginnings to greater testimonies, in Jesus name. Amen.
