Bible Reading: Exodus 20:3
Memory Verse: For you, Lord, are the Most High over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods. Psalm 97:9 (GWT)
Your attitude towards your problem will determine how long you are going to stay in the problem. Many times, your problems are not actually the problem. The real problem is the posture of your heart, your convictions – where you ultimately put your trust.
The Psalmist in Psalm 121:1-2 reads, “I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Is your trust ONLY on Jesus?
A sister called her Pastor and complained bitterly that things are not working, and infact, she wanted to commit suicide. She said she had prayed and also gone to the herbalist. Her Pastor responded bluntly, “Until your trust is ONLY in Jesus, your problems will persist. You cannot serve God and idols.”
You remember when the god, Dagon, was placed beside the Ark of the Covenant in 1 Samuel 5:2-5, Dagon fell down flat on his face (as if worshipping a God in total surrender). On the next morning, his head (the prophetic symbol of destiny) and his hand (the prophetic symbol of prosperity in your handwork), was broken.
Similarly, when you serve God and at the same time visit herbalist, witch doctors, or river-side prophets at night, you may only succeed in prolonging the evil days. You may only increase the gestation period of your wilderness experience and strengthen your problems. You may only prolong the time span from your Egypt to Israel. The journey of the children of Israel was meant to be 40 days but it became 40 years because they did not align ONLY to the commandment of God.
There are no shortcuts to God. Until He becomes the only God in your life, He may not show up. Stop mixing God with fetish practices. Be warned, there are false prophets all around you.
1 Samuel 7:3 (NKJV) says, “Then Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, “If you return to the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtoreths from among you, and prepare your hearts for the LORD, and serve Him only; and He will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.” The problem with the children of Israel was not serving God, but serving God only! Perfect peace belongs to those who have chosen God ONLY, amongst very many other alternatives.
Friends, why are you still rigmaroling. You are a deacon in church, an elder, a chorister, a student fellowship executive, a worker, etc., but you have allowed the challenges of life to push you to native doctors, herbalist, wizards/witches in church robes. Today, I encourage you to repent wholly. Perhaps it is time to switch from faith in God to trust in God. And just like the three Hebrew boys said, “If God doesn’t solve our problems, we had better leave it unsolved forever”. Think on these things.
