Bible ReadingJoshua 24: 14-15

Memory VerseAnd you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. Deuteronomy 6:5 (NIV)

It is the same old serpent in the book of Genesis that became a Dragon in the book of Revelation. All through the ages, the devil keeps INNOVATING new tricks to match the current civilisation. Gone are the days the devil appeared in black with horns. Today, he appears in three-piece suit, under the radar, to perform his three-fold mission – to steal, kill, and to destroy. Same devil, different adaptive techniques!

An idol is anything (big or small) which you place before, beside, behind, or replace with God in the deepest core of your heart. For example, an idol is that first thing you do in the morning other than worshipping God, the Giver of life. For many people, it is their phone. The social media has become an idol for many people. They keep scrolling for news, notifications, comment, friend request, hottest gist, etc. A tool meant to make communication and business better has choked the soul of many.

For others, the idol in their heart is materialism. Look good and presentable at all times, but not at the detriment of your soul. Nice things may not necessarily be expensive. Clothes, bags, perfumes, etc., have become idols – a do or die affair in the hearts of many.

For others, it is their work/career/profession/academics. Any work that does not allow you to serve God in Spirit and in truth is gradually becoming an idol. There are Christian billionaires who still evangelise every week. Are you busier than such? Check your heart, brethren?

For another, it is music. Do you know there are Christians who have a playlist of worldly songs on their phones? Some keep them in hidden files! Purge yourself of these things, soldier of the Lord. It will pollute your soul. Worse still, some of these people are choristers in Church. No wonder our worship is mostly sensational and not spiritual.

For some others, it is sport. Be careful of who you call your idol in the entertainment world.  Many of these people are occultist who have sold their soul to the devil. There are certain styles of celebration some of these football idols perform after scoring a goal that gives silent worship to their idols. This world is deep! Will you go to church if your favourite football club is having a very important match which coincides with a worship service? If no, then football is an idol in your heart.

Song: “My Heart Your Home” by Women of Faith

Come and make my heart Your home

Come and be everything I am and all I know

Search me through and through ’till my heart becomes a home for You

Come and make my heart Your home

Come and be everything I am and all I know

Search me through and through ’till my heart becomes a home for You.

A home for You, Lord.

A home for You, Lord

Let everything I do open up

A door for You to come through

And that be a place where You want to be

Come and make my heart Your home

Come and be everything I am and all I know

Search me through and through ’till my heart becomes a home for You

A home for You, Lord.

A home for You, Lord

Let everything I do open up

A door for You to come through

And that be a place where You want to be

Come and make my heart Your home

Come and be everything I am and all I know

Search me through and through ’till my heart becomes a home for You

’till my heart becomes a home for You

’till my heart becomes a home for You
