Bible Reading: Jeremiah 29:11 

Memory Verse:  For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the LORD, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 (AMP)

Like the biblical Apostle Paul and Jephthah, God is still in the business of changing narratives no matter your horrendous past. 

Tarra Simmons just became the first formerly incarcerated person to be elected to the Washington State Legislature. Do you understand that? Simply put: A former prisoner indicted for drug abuse, theft and fire arms is now a legislator in no other place other than the United States capital city, Washington. What really happened?

Early Struggles: Tarra faced a difficult upbringing marked by trauma and violence, leading her to drop out of middle school and become a teen mother.

Finding Her Path: Despite these challenges, she returned to education, earning a nursing degree.

Incarceration and Re-entry Challenges: Tarra’s past caught up with her, leading to incarceration. Upon her release, she faced systemic barriers, including limited job opportunities and housing instability.

Advocacy and Legal Battles: Driven by her experiences, Tarra pursued law, aiming to help others navigate the criminal justice system. She fought a landmark legal battle for the right to practice law despite her past.

Legislative Change: Tarra Simmons is now a Washington State Representative, advocating for reforms in the criminal justice and education systems.

Lessons: Her journey highlights the need for second chances and systemic change to support those impacted by the justice system. With God, you can turn your lemons to lemonades; your past trauma into your future testimonies; your misery into a message. Be courageous. You can rewrite your ugly past, and reconstruct the narrative. Hand over your past to Jesus. He will surely use it as a raw material for a well finished product.

Prophetic Decree: Destiny changer, Jesus Christ of Nazareth shall enter your past and use it to his glory, in Jesus name. 

Prayer Focus 

1. Story changer, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, change my story today, in Jesus name. 

2. By the mercies of God, I undo anything done in my past that may bring pain to my present and future, in Jesus name. 

3. Destiny changer, change my destiny for good, in Jesus name. 

4. I come out of every foundational limitation that has held me bound, in Jesus name. 

5. Every curse of like father-like son, like mother-like daughter upon my head, break by the redeeming Blood of Jesus, in Jesus name.
