Bible Reading: 2 Timothy 2:19, Proverbs 16:11; 20:10,23
Memory Verse: But God’s truth stands firm like a great rock, and nothing can shake it. It is a foundation stone with these words written on it: “The Lord knows those who are really his,” and “A person who calls himself a Christian should not be doing things that are wrong. 2 Timothy 2:19 (TLB)
A young man driving stopped when the traffic light showed red. A mother with two children in her car behind him kept horning wanting him to ignore the traffic light. This young man has got the right values and wouldn’t do that. When the traffic light indicated green, this woman drove pass him and yelled, “You’re a mad man” in her native language.
The question is: What message has she passed on to those little children who are instinct learners? Anyone who stops at the red light is crazy? What a bad driving lesson. This is how we confuse a generation. There was a generation who knew right from wrong, and chose to do what was right. Somehow, they passed the wrong signal to the next generation. When that generation got confused, they started seeing what was wrong as right.
They called it Al-right! That is Altered right!! There is a generation that is slowly, but surely brooding. They are the most confused. This generation takes what is wrong as right and what is right as wrong. “A lie doesn’t become truth, wrong doesn’t become right, and evil doesn’t become good, just because it’s accepted by a majority” – Booker T. Washington. Brethren, we must consciously and deliberately live for the right values and impact same into our children by teaching them the fear of God, and honour to the rule of law.
Everyone must be involved – parent, the government, the church, the school, etc. Values are our standards and ideals with which we evaluate actions, people, things and situations. Justice, honesty, peace, generosity, etc, are good values that must be endorsed. Remember the ABCD of values.
A: Advocate for your values.
B: Believe and behave your values.
C: Champion your values.
D: Defend your values.
Do the right things at all times regardless of who is doing the wrong things. “It is not enough to stand for what it right. You must let people know what you stand for” – Dr Christopher Kolade.
Quote: Children learn more from what you are than what you teach – W.E.B. DuBois
