Bible Reading: Malachi 3:7
Memory Verse: With everlasting love I have loved you. Jeremiah 31:3 (KJV)
Acute Relationship Experience (A.R.E) is a sudden, painful shift in a relationship caused by conflict, betrayal, misunderstanding, disappointment, and worse still, death. Pastor Bisi Adewale said: “People who enter new relationships without first healing from A.R.E often end up misbehaving in their new unions. That’s why some individuals go through multiple divorces, moving from one partner to another, searching for something they lost within themselves.”
But, how do you heal after a traumatic relationship?
1. Return To God Who Restores Identity: When relationships shatter, identity often shatters with them. God restores identity, not people. “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3). You find yourself again by returning to the Father. God made you, not situation, circumstances or any relationship. The greatest relationship is with your lover, Jesus. You are what the Father says you are.
2. Recognise and name the wound: Healing starts when truth is faced without denial. John 8:32 says, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Name what was broken: Trust? Identity? Safety? Ability to love? Self-worth? David didn’t pretend he wasn’t wounded. He prayed honestly. Psalm 142:2 says, “I poured out my complaint before Him; I declared my trouble before Him.”
3. Receive God’s love before you give love again: Many jump into a new relationship trying to prove they are valuable instead of knowing they already are. “We love because He first loved us.” (1 John 4:19). Only a loved heart can love safely.
Quote: My past is not who I am. I am who the Scripture says that I am.
Prophetic Decree: Receive light and illumination of your identity in Christ, in Jesus name.
