Bible Reading: Proverbs 3: 5-6

Memory Verse: Then I said, ‘Look, I have come to do your will, O God— as is written about me in the Scriptures. Hebrews 11:7 (NLT)

Many believers desire divine direction, but few realise the price that often accompanies it. God’s guidance becomes clear when our own ambitions, preferences, and opinions are surrendered to Him. Divine direction is difficult to receive when self is still sitting on the throne of the heart. Self is the part of us that wants to be in control of our own lives independently of God. It is our natural tendency to put our own desires, opinions, ambitions, feelings, and interests first rather than submitting them to God’s will.

Jesus gave one of the strongest invitations to discipleship when He said: “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” (Luke 9:23). Notice that before following comes denying, and before direction comes surrender.

Self naturally wants comfort, control, recognition, and certainty. God, however, often leads His children through paths that require trust rather than understanding. As long as we insist on having our own way, we may struggle to recognise His voice.

Consider the life of Abraham. God instructed him to leave his country, his relatives, and everything familiar. Abraham did not receive the full map before he began the journey. He obeyed first and discovered the details along the way. His willingness to surrender his plans positioned him for God’s direction.

Jesus Himself demonstrated this principle in the Garden of Gethsemane. Facing the agony of the cross, He prayed, “Nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” (Luke 22:42). The greatest act of divine direction in history began with the surrender of personal will. Jesus chose the Father’s plan over His own desires. Every believer who seeks divine guidance must eventually pray that same prayer.

There are times when God’s direction may not make sense. He may ask you to forgive when you want revenge. He may ask you to wait when you want to move. He may ask you to serve when you want to be recognised. In those moments, the issue is not hearing God but yielding to God.

Many people ask, “Why can’t I hear God’s voice?” Sometimes the question is not whether God is speaking, but whether we are willing to obey what He has already said. A surrendered heart hears more clearly because it is no longer arguing with the instructions of heaven. When self dies, peace rises. When pride dies, wisdom flows. When personal agendas die, God’s purposes become clearer.

Today, ask yourself: Am I truly seeking God’s direction, or am I asking God to approve my own plans? Divine direction is not merely about knowing where to go; it is about becoming the kind of person who is willing to follow wherever God leads.

Quote: The will of man is the greatest hindrance to the will of God.

Prophetic Decree: Receive divine grace to yield completely to the will of God in Jesus name.

Prayer Focus

Father, I surrender my will, my plans, and my ambitions to You. Remove every area where self is resisting Your leadership. Teach me to trust You beyond my own understanding. Give me the grace to obey even when I do not have all the answers. Let my heart be fully yielded so that I can walk confidently in Your divine direction, in Jesus name. Amen.
