Imagine if Jeremiah in the Bible, a renowned Prophet to Israel had been aborted in his mother’s womb? Who could have been the mouth piece of God in his generation?

There is a culture of silence about abortion in Nigeria that stems from cultural taboos and religion. This silence has resulted in a failure by authorities to crack down on the huge number of illegal abortion clinics that operate in the country.

There are at least 760,000 abortions each year in Nigeria, according to a 2008 study by the Guttmacher Institute. Many public health professionals in the country however believe this is a ‘drastic undercounting’.

In a particular city for example, abortions caused about half of the deaths of women during pregnancy, largely because they are performed in the secret by incompetent ‘Doctors’. Many quack health practitioners abound that operates abortion clinics out of their homes or behind Pharmacies. Many pharmacies also sell drugs used to induce abortion. The price for abortions can range from #2,000 to #20,000 or more.

Some students attempt self-induced abortions with herbs or toxic substances or sharp implements; others go for illegal ‘back alley’ abortionists who were rarely medical professionals. Many girls and young women died as a result of these unsafe abortion methods.

Key Point:  The cost of sexual purity is lesser than the cost of abortion.

1. Father Lord, forgive and heal our land of the numerous blood we’ve shed; speaking against the destiny of our nation.
2. Father Lord, cause a change in the heart of many that are planning to abort their pregnancy, in the name of Jesus.
