Adedolapo Kehinde Adebayo, a first-class graduate from Afe Babalola University, achieved an impressive CGPA of 4.54 in Computer Science while excelling beyond academics. He led his university team to victory at the prestigious Babcock TechXplore debate competition, defeating other top universities. Adebayo credited his success to faith, strategic self-reflection, and surrounding himself with a motivated and supportive circle of friends
Three main points he mentioned that are responsible for this great feat:
1. “I put God into the equation of whatever I wanted to do, as a Christian, I believe strongly in putting God first in all things.”
Lesson: Those who put God first are never put to shame (Mat. 6:33).
2. “I analysed the things I did wrong in my 100Level (including sitting in the middle row of the class, not reading on weekends) and made up my mind not to make those mistakes for the rest of my years in school.”
Lesson: If the cycle of repeated academics failures will not continue, then you must be ready to do something different. Life is lived forward but learnt backwards.
3. “I painstakingly picked my circle of friends to ensure I was well motivated to bring my best to the table”
Lesson: Your circle of friends will determine the height of your greatness. He that works with the wise shall be wise. Chances are higher to make a good success out of your academics when you work with serious minded students. No friend leaves you the same. They are either adding or subtracting from you.
Finally, in his own words: “I attribute my academic success to a combination of hard work and prayers. I believe in the power of diligent effort paired with consistent prayer. It’s important to study smart rather than just hard, which involves understanding your learning style and optimizing your study methods. Staying committed to my goals and having sources of motivation whether that be my family, faith, or personal aspirations has been crucial in maintaining my focus and drive.”
