Bible Reading: Acts 20:35
Memory Verse: Do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. Hebrews 13:16 (NIV)
The day after Christmas is known in many countries as Boxing Day. Historically, it was a time when the wealthy prepared boxes of gifts, food, or money to share with servants, tradespeople, and the poor. Though the modern version of the day is often filled with shopping and sales, its origin carries a rich spiritual reminder: God calls us to give.
The Christmas story itself is a story of giving. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son”. The wise men brought gifts to Jesus. Mary gave her womb. Joseph gave his protection. The shepherds gave their time and testimony. And God gave the greatest Gift of all – salvation through Christ.
So, as the wrapping paper from Christmas settles and the excitement of yesterday fades, let’s ask: Who can I encourage today? Who needs a call, a meal, or even a listening ear? How can I carry the spirit of giving beyond December?
On Boxing Day, we are invited to pause and think:
I. Is my giving seasonal or a lifestyle?
II. Do I give only from my excess, or do I give sacrificially?
III. Am I giving with joy, not grudgingly? (2 Corinthians 9:7)
Giving is not just about material things. Sometimes the “box” someone needs is filled with forgiveness, encouragement, prayer, or simply your presence. Today is an opportunity to open the box of your life and let someone experience the love of Christ through you in cash and/or in kind.
Challenge: Before the day ends, bless at least one person in a tangible way, and do it quietly, without expecting anything in return. The God who sees you in secret shall reward you openly in due season.
Quote: Give in cash and/in kind. There’s always something you can give.
Prophetic Decree: Let the hold of stinginess break in your life, in Jesus name.
Prayer Focus
1. Thank you Father for giving us the greatest gifts, Jesus.
2. I receive grace to give cheerfully and not grudgingly, in Jesus name. Let my generosity reflect Your heart and draw others closer to You. Amen.
3. I come against any wicked devices of the devil to use my gifts against me, in Jesus name.
4. Any man or woman in custody of my gift as a point of contact against me, after the order of Dathan, Korah and Abiram, be wasted, in Jesus name.
5. My gift shall open great doors for my destiny, in Jesus name.
