Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 14:40, Proverbs 9:10
Memory Verse:  The LORD is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him. Habakkuk 2:20 (NIV)

Decorum refers to behaviour that is correct, polite, and respectful. It implies a sense of propriety, good taste, and orderliness. In other words, it’s about acting in a way that is appropriate for a given situation and shows consideration for others.

Words like propriety, decency, etiquette, and politeness are often used to describe decorum, as they all relate to appropriate and respectful behaviour.

We are to exhibit decorum when we are in the presence of the Most High both in the public (in church) and in the private (during our family and personal daily devotion).

Here are examples of decorum in a church setting:

  1. Dress Modestly and Respectfully: Wearing clothing that is appropriate and not distracting (e.g., avoiding revealing or flashy attire).
  2. Arrive on Time and Stay Until the End: Entering quietly if late and minimising disruptions.
  3. Maintain Silence or Speak Softly: Avoiding loud conversations or unnecessary noise before, during, and after the service.
  4. Participate Respectfully: Stand, sit, and kneel at appropriate times. Join the hymns, prayers, or responses when invited.
  5. Turn off or Silence Electronic Devices: Ensure phones or gadgets don’t cause interruptions.
  6. Respect Sacred Objects and Spaces: Not touching the altar, sacred vessels, or other religious symbols unless permitted.
  7. Refrain from Eating or Drinking in the sanctuary: Unless it’s part of the service, like Holy Communion.
  8. Supervise Children Respectfully: Keeping them close and helping them behave appropriately.
  9. Greet others with Courtesy: Offering a smile, handshake, or quiet greeting.
  10. Tithing or Giving Donations Quietly and Respectfully: Use designated times or boxes for offerings without drawing attention.

Quote: If you can’t respect God in His sanctuary, how then will you honour him in your words, actions, and lifestyle at home, school or your workplace?

Prophetic Decree: Receive a fresh baptism of the fear of God, in Jesus name.

Prayer Focus

  1. Lord, I am sorry for disappointing you in my words and deeds even in the household of faith.
  2. I receive grace to dress modestly and appropriately, in Jesus name.
  3. I receive the grace and discipline to arrive early to Church and stay until the end, in Jesus name.
  4. I receive the grace and discipline not to chat, eat, or drink unless when appropriate in God’s sanctuary, in Jesus name.
  5. I receive the grace to rever God in holy fear in my heart, in Jesus name.

THE QUIET DESTROYERS (2)

One of the greatest dangers in the life of a believer is not the sins everyone can see, but the ones that hide quietly in the heart. These sins rarely attract attention, yet they slowly drain spiritual strength and weaken a man’s destiny. Hebrews 12:1 says, “Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles”...

THE QUIET DESTROYERS (1)

The Quiet Destroyers are otherwise known as Secret Sins That Ruin Destiny. Many destinies have not been destroyed by loud sins, but by quiet ones. The sins nobody sees. The ones people excuse. The ones hidden behind reputation, ministry, intelligence, or success. Yet heaven sees them clearly. The Bible says, “Be sure your sin will find you out” (Numbers 32:23). Secret sins do not remain secret forever. They slowly weaken the soul until a man who once carried promise begins to lose weight in the spirit...

THE DANGER OF SECRET SIN

Bro. Gbile Akanni once shared a sobering story that has stayed in my heart for many years. He spoke about an elderly evangelist whom God used mightily in the past. In those days there was no television, only radio. When this man of God preached, people would gather around their radios. Sometimes he would say, “Place your hand on the radio.”...
