Bible Reading: Philippians 3: 13-14
Memory Verse: I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. Philippians 4:13 (NLT)
To quit is to surrender to discouragement. It means to surender to depression. It means to surrender to defeat in the battles of life. To quit is to handle the steering wheel of your life to your enemy. To quit is to stop boxing while your opponent is still kicking you hard in order to knock you out. Quitting is a character/attitudinal flaw you are to guard jealously against.
The quitter is a father with seven children: 1. Procrastination. 2. Fear. 3. Indecision. 4. Compromise. 5. Lack of compelling vision. 6. Discouragement. 7. Incomplete or lack of deliverance.
Here’s a small story that instills the importance of persistence: One day one man decided to quit his job, his relationship, his spirituality. He wanted to quit his life. So he went into the woods, to have one last conversation with God. ‘God’, he asked, ‘Can you give me one good reason not to quit my life?’ But God’s answer surprised him… ‘Look around’, He said. ‘Do you see the fern and the bamboo?’ It took few weeks for the fern to quickly grow.
The bamboo didn’t sprout at all for five full years, and six months afterwards rose to over 100 feet tall. Yes, 100 feet tall. It had spent the previous five years growing its roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive. And grow. I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle. And then God asked the man: ‘Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots’? ‘I would not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you. Don’t compare yourself to others,’ God said.
