Bible Reading: Isaiah 1:18-20

Memory Verse: Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your
sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they
shall be as wool. Isaiah 1:18

The Rwandan genocide was a genocidal mass slaughter of the Tutsi tribe by members of
the Hutu majority government. An estimated 500,000–1,000,000 Rwandans were
killed during the 100-day period (April 7 to mid-July 1994). This constitute about 70%
of the Tutsi population.
The various agitations of various tribes, groups, university students, lecturers and the
society at large against the constituted authority can never be totally solved by violent
or military invasion. This will only make negative history repeat itself. Isaiah 1:18 says,
“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD…” If the Most High is willing to
dialogue with His children, why can’t we sit down to talk over our differences? A proverb
says, “The tongue and the teeth do fight and later reconcile”. The root of this problem is
pride expressed as “superiority mentality complex”. .
Ban Ki-moon, the 8th United Nations Secretary-General said “Building sustainable
cities – and a sustainable future – will need open dialogue among all branches of national,
regional and local government. And it will need the engagement of all stakeholders –
including the private sector and civil society, and especially the poor and marginalized”.
Parent must embrace dialogue with their children and hear them out. The University
management must give listening hear to the grievances of the students and lecturers.
The government must hear-out the myriad of problems of her workers and various
union. Let us live together as one. We are created in the image of God and as such, we
should embrace tolerance, unity and peace thereby living a better legacy for the next
generation.
