Bible Reading:  Leviticus 6:12-13.

Memory verse:    And the fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it; it shall not be put out. And the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order on it; and he shall burn on it the fat of the peace offerings. Leviticus 6:13 (NKJV)

A family is the smallest unit of every society. A good family will produce good citizens. The social and cultural menace of our time is as a result of a broken family system. As the saying goes, “A family that prays together stays together”. This is an all-time truth. The political and socio-economic factors of our time are fast rubbing off negatively on the family system.

I quite agree that some parents and students live far away from their place of work and school respectively. Yet, this is not a good reason to stop them from raising a family altar every day and night. The family altar is a place of sacrifice unto God. It is a time for quality praise, prayer, worship, Bible study and any other thing as the Spirit of God will be leading members of one’s family to do. Jesus said, if two of you shall agree concerning a thing on earth, your heavenly Father shall give it unto you (Mat.18:19-20).

Parents, Guardians and students should create time to pray together. Some know little or nothing about the Bible due to ineffective Bible study time at the family altar. But on the contrary, such students can sing the latest of all songs that are not edifying.

Parents should know that their children are a reflection of their spiritual and academic investment. I was challenged when a student recited the entire book of James in the Bible. Another recited the 176 verses of the longest book of the Bible, Psalm 119. All these are true expressions of a good family altar.

Key Point: A Family That Prays Together Stays Together.

Prayer points:

  1. Fresh fire of God, burn upon my family altar, in the name of Jesus.
  2. Satanic distraction targeted at my family altar, scatter, in the name of Jesus.
