HUMPHREY MONMOUTH: HE WAS FAITHFUL TO HIS ASSIGNMENT

Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:58, Hebrews 6:10

Memory Verse:  So that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward youMatthew 6:4 (NIV)

We all have a part in the work of God. While your gifts and talents are indicators of what you are capable of doing, you must also allow God to minister to you on how to dispense this grace and treasure He has given you per time. At a time, David was a shepherd boy, then minstrel, and then a sweet Psalmist, a combatant soldier and ultimately a king. May the Lord use you to the degree He desires per time, in Jesus name. Please work with God intelligently per time. You know, there will be surprises in heaven. Many will be surprised at the crowns to be given to some unknown secret labourers of the kingdom of God. You must have heard about William Tyndale, the man who translated the Bible from Greek and Latin to English language, but many do not know about Humphrey Monmouth who died on 23rd November, 1537.

He was an English merchant in London and an acquaintance of William Tyndale. Monmouth was a wealthy member of the Drapers’ Company who converted early to Protestantism. He was a kingdom financier. He was a benefactor of William Tyndale as the latter worked on the English translation of the Bible. Tyndale lived in Monmouth’s house for several months before he was exiled to Germany. In 1528, Monmouth was arrested and placed in the Tower of London, for his possession of certain heretical books and on account of his association with Tyndale. He also died as a martyr. He used his wealth and influence to finance and transport the English Bible.

Friend, your kingdom labour may not be obvious to anyone but I beg of you to please keep labouring in the secret. A crown of glory awaits you. Are you working in the sanitation department or as a janitor? Are you a member of the prayer band, or a secret intercessor? Stay where God has placed you. Don’t feel neglected or inferior to those taking the centre stage.

Key Point: Stay faithful to your calling. God has given to every man according to their different capabilities.
