Bible reading: Psalm 33:12-22

Memory Verse: Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance. Psalm 33:12(NKJV)

Patriotism refers to a devoted love, support, and defense of one’s country. It is an act of National loyalty. The spirit of Patriotism is fast eroding the heart of many and gradually fading off from the school system where it was once been emphasized.

Don’t join the group of people who use words such as, “This country don spoil”, “Better no dey for this country”, “In no go better for PHCN” etc. Words are life!

There’s the inspiring story of a Nigerian police officer who returned a woman’s purse with ATM cards containing #200Million and a necklace worth N1.8 million at a shopping mall while he was on duty. The purse contained some cash both in local and foreign currencies, recharge cards worth #2,000, nine ATM cards, complementary cards, and valuable documents, international passport, international and local driver’s license, national ID card, voter’s card and a gold necklace.

The Officer took the missing purse to the security office where all lost but found items are being kept for the owners to claim when a formal complaint is lodged. The owner screamed for joy when contacted via her complimentary card.

What an officer! What a Patriot! Do you know this man rejected even the cash gift given to him by this woman insisting he was only doing his job? A Police officer to recover a missing item containing cash and yet, return the missing item intact without removing a dime out of it in this harsh economy? “She kept staring at me like I am a god”, he said. Are you a patriotic citizen?

Key point:  There are few patriotic citizens around. Would you like to be one?

Prayer Point:

  1. Holy Spirit, renew my love for my Country.
  2. Father Lord, magnify the strengths of my Country before me and not her weaknesses, in the name of Jesus.
