Bible Reading: Psalm 103: 1-22
Memory Verse: Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits. Psalm 103:2 (NIV)
Those who aren’t grateful to men whom they can see may never be able to show gratitude to the God they can’t see.
Travis Greene, the writer of the song, “You Made A Way” made a very powerful contribution to this note: My son was born at 28 weeks, two pounds. He was in the incubator for two months. My wife was in the hospital for two months. Her legs were withering away. This is where I wrote the song, “You Made A Way.” I did not write a song that said, “You’ll make a way.” I wrote it in past tense. Because anything God’s about to do, He’s already done.
This is the difference between reactive praises and proactive praises. A reactive praise, wait till they see the solution. It waits till they see the victory. It waits until the X-ray is turned around in their favour. But for proactive praises, you walk right while awaiting the manifestation of your miracle. I enter his gates with thanksgiving. I enter this courts with praise. I’ve got enough history with God to know that He’s able to do exceedingly abundantly above all I can ask or think. I praise Him in advance.
Why should you praise God?
1. For the miracle of sleeping and waking up (Psalm 3:5): Your sleep was not accidental; God watched over you through the night.
2. For disappointing the devices of the crafty (Job 5:12): Hidden plots against your life and family were terminated by divine intervention.
3. For His provision and daily supplies (Philippians 4:19): You are sustained by heaven, not chance.
4. For uncommon open doors (1 Corinthians 16:9): God open doors no man can shut.
5. For good health and healing (Psalm 103:2–3): Your health is preserved by covenant mercy.
6. For a blissful and peaceful marriage (Mark 10:9): Marital harmony is a gift worth praising God for.
7. For a sound mind in a sound body (2 Timothy 1:7): Mental stability is a divine blessing.
8. For making all things beautiful in His time (Ecclesiastes 3:11): God’s timing perfects your destiny.
9. For forgiveness of sins (Psalm 103:3): You are not judged by your past because of grace.
10. Praise is healing for the soul (Psalm 30:2): Praise takes your focus from all that is wrong in your life to all that is working well in your life.
11. For salvation through Jesus Christ: “Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.” (2 Corinthians 9:15). Salvation is the greatest reason to praise God.
Quote: There’s hope only for the living. A living dog is better than a dead lion.
